If a large screen is what you desire in your mobile device, then you are bound to fall in love with the Redmi Note 8 Pro. The phone features a 6.53-inch FHD+ touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The colour reproduction is very good which makes for great viewing of movies.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro is powered by a MediaTek Helio G90T, paired with 6GB or 8GB RAM. This configuration obviously packs much power which means high processing ability and speed. Indeed, the phone is the first mobile device to feature the MediaTek Helio G90T, a gaming-centric chipset. Surely, the Note 8 Pro is a gamer’s delight.
High graphics games such as Asphalt 9 run smoothly on the device with everyday tasks such as browsing, multitasking and so on proving not to be a challenge at all for the device. The phone is the first from Redmi to feature a liquid cooling chamber which helps to cool the heat produced during extensive gaming.
The device runs the Android 9 Pie and has 64GB and 128 GB internal storage configurations although the storage can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD card.
The Note 8 Pro features a 20 MP secondary camera while primary camera features a quad-camera setup. The rear features a 64MP + 8MP ultra-wide + 2MP macro + 2MP depth quadruple-camera setup. According to Redmi, the Note 8 is the first smartphone to feature a 64MP camera, how this checks out will be seen over time.
The primary 64MP camera produces sharp images although the colour reproduction in images doesn’t look natural enough. This camera uses the Samsung ISOCELL BRIGHT GW1 and the quad-binning pixel technology for capturing superb images. Pictures taken with the 64MP camera look great under sufficient lighting conditions, with the exposure being well handled very well. The camera features several camera modes including Portrait mode and Night mode.
For the portrait mode, the subject-background separation isn’t that great and while the Night mode works, its quality isn’t that impressive either. The noise is too much and the images somehow look artificial. The 20 MP selfie camera manages to capture good images even though it tends to overexpose highlights. It captures AI-enhanced images as it is equipped with AI scene recognition and beautification tools.
The Note 8 Pro is also capable of shooting videos up to 4k at 30fps. Image stabilization isn’t that great so it is advisable to use a smartphone gimbal when recording with a Note 8 Pro. It is also possible to record videos in Macro mode on the Note 8 Pro, which is quite good.
A 4500 mAh battery means you can use the phone extensively with fear of the battery running out. This is good for heavy gamers and movie lovers. The phone is also equipped with fast-charge technology so getting your device powered quickly should not be a challenged at all.
Overall, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is a robust smartphone which offers so much to its user. The performance is smooth due to its high-end processor and 6GB RAM. The smartphone was designed with the gamer in mind so heavy gaming is not a problem at all for the phone. The display is large and colour reproduction is good so a movie lover will find the smartphone very useful.
The camera hardware is very good with room for improvement. The 4500 mAh battery means you can do so much more with the device before making a dash for your charger. The phone has fast charging technology which makes things even more interesting as you can quickly power up your device when it does run out of power.
