INFINIX HOT 8 FULL REVIEW
Build & Design
The build of the device is good. It has a sleek look with round edges that add to its feel. The body is made out of polycarbonate which makes the device feel good when held. Also, it is aesthetically pleasing overall as it features very narrow bezels which are a plus. The dual gradient rear design and the mini-drop notch in front both help to improve the phone’s looks.
The Infinix Hot 8 comes in the following color variants; Cosmic Purple, Shark Grey, Quetzal Cyan, and Midnight Black. Despite its size, the phone isn’t heavy at all and can be held firmly with one hand. The volume keys and the screen lock buttons are well placed on the right side of the phone while the SIM & memory card slots are to the left.
The rear panel of the phone features a vertically aligned triple camera and a fingerprint sensor. The lower end of the phone houses the loudspeaker, USB port, microphone, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The selfie clicker is placed on the notch, right below the ear speaker, and there is a front LED flash placed on the left side of the notch.
The Infinix Hot 8 comes with a 6.52-inch IPS LCD HD+ screen, with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and 20.9 aspect ratio. The phone has a screen to body ratio of 81.5 % due to its thin bezels and a mini-drop notch.
Although the resolution is high, the display isn’t the sharpest but this is okay considering it is a budget phone. It works well for watching movies and consuming other types of high-quality content. As expected, the display is big, nice and the viewing angles are perfect.
The Hot 8 is powered by a Quad-core 2.0 Helio P22 Cortex-A53 processor, which is supported by 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. The processor is standard for low budget devices and is the same processor dispatched on previous Infinix releases such as the S4 and the Hot 7.
All round, the Hot 8 is only slightly better than its predecessor in terms of performance. Performing regular everyday tasks on the device is a no brainer but the phone struggles to deliver a great gaming experience for game lovers who may be tempted to buy one due to its big screen. Playing mobile games can be laborious on this device as popular mobile games like Temple Run take a very long time to load.
Also, it is very difficult to switch apps quickly while playing these games. This makes the Infinix Hot 8 not so good a buy for a heavy gamer. It will work just fine for a casual gamer. The device is perfect for performing regular tasks such as browsing, watching videos and listening to music. The sound quality is great as the phone has the Dirac surround sound technology. The Android 9.0 OS is complemented by the XOS5.0 Cheetah.
The XOS adds some more features like actions and gestures for interacting with the device. This includes tapping to wake, flipping the phone to mute incoming calls, covering the screen to silence an incoming call, 3-finger screenshot and music gesture. There is also an Intelligent voice broadcast that is capable of reading out things for the user.
The phone comes with facial recognition to unlock the device in addition to fingerprint locking, pattern unlocking, and number code unlocking.
The Hot 8 is the first mobile device from Infinix that is equipped with triple camera setup. The rear of the device features a 13 MP + 2 MP + a dedicated low-light sensor and a quad-LED flash camera setup. The 13 MP primary camera has f/1.8 aperture and phase detection autofocus (PDAF).
The 2 MP camera is good for depth of field. The front camera is 8 MP, supported by a LED flash. The Camera UI is basic and easy to comprehend. You swipe right or left to switch between the different available modes. Available camera modes include Bokeh, Beauty, Panorama, AR shot and many more.
Overall, the image processing is decent and the images are sharp and well colored. The camera functions best in daylight in outdoor settings although the quad-LED flash on the rear of the device helps to improve image quality when shooting in the dark.
Without a doubt, the battery is one of the highs of this device. A 5000mAh battery means that the device can run for a longer period even with heavy usage before it is charged again. Also, the charging does not take too long complete.
The Infinix Hot 8 is well priced for what it offers and is a good buy. The performance, battery size, camera, and screen size are decent for a budget smartphone. A heavy gamer may not enjoy the phone as pointed out above but overall, the phone ticks the right boxes.
