Not everyone can afford the premium prices of the latest smartphones flying here and there, that’s why some smart manufacturers have produced budget smartphones that are pocket-friendly and affordable.
By being affordable, that does not mean, the bells and whistle of premium phones are not available for the cheap smartphones on this list. However, you can’t expect all the premium features on these phones, but you will still be getting value for money. So without wasting much of our time, let’s dive straight into the list of the cheap android smartphones here in 2019.
1) Moto G6- $169.99
You can capture and learn more about the world around you with the Moto G6 32GB Android smartphone from Motorola. With the Moto G6, you can satisfy your concern by just showing the 12MP and 5MP dual rear cameras at an object or landmark and watch as the G6 begins to try and recognise it, when the G6 figures it out it’ll automatically ask if you want to learn more.
It can scan in text from a real document to text blocks; you can then copy these blocks into texts, emails, notes and more. The front-facing 8MP camera is pretty intelligent too instead of using a password you can use the camera to open the cheap smartphone with nothing but your good looks.
When it comes to photos and video, the rear cameras can catch some marvellous pics, as well as videos in up to 1080p HD resolution.
You can get inventive with your videos by using the slow-motion or time-lapse modes, on the front the camera can take wide-angle selfies.
2) Huawei P20 Lite-$219.50
The Huawei P20 Lite is the next on our list of budget smartphones. The P20 lite provides a little iPhone X design magic at a third of the price but with limited notch compatibility and subpar performance.
The smartphone somehow manages to feel a bit expensive. The P20 lite has a glass back and an aluminium frame for rigidity, the smartphone has a very smooth and clean layout with no antenna lines at the back.
Smartly blended dual cameras and minimal screen borders upfront, the glass back looks and feels superior and helps the p20 lite stand out from the hordes of metal-clad mid-range smartphones. The 5.8 4-inch display dominates the front fillet of the smartphone; it has a notch at the head, which is quite small.
There is a choice in the settings menu to hide the notch. The back glass panel houses the vertically piled cameras, and there’s a centrally placed fingerprint sensor that is quite fast and accurate.
3) Realme 1 (Black, 6GB RAM, 128GB Storage)
Moving on with the list of budget smartphones for 2019 is the Realme 1, the Realme 1 has an 18.9 display with up to 6GB of RAM, a fibreglass body with a unique design and Android 8.1 Oreo right out of the box.
It seems the Realme 1 have been explicitly designed to be a Redmi Note 5 Pro killer. It has a fibreglass body with a glossy diamond-cut effect on the back. The company says that there are 15 tangent planes carved onto the rear panel to reflect light in several ways and make the phone look like a diamond.
While the design is undoubtedly unique and attractive, it might come across as a bit ostentatious and gaudy to some.
The Realme 1 has a non-removable 3410 mAh battery and runs colour OS 5.0 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo.
Connectivity options incorporate dual 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11, AC Bluetooth 4.2 and a 3.5 mm headphone jack; you further get FM radio and GPS.

9) UMIDIGI A3 Pro- $99.99
This device is currently available for $99.99 on Amazon, and it’s available factory unlocked. The device features a 5.7-inch display coming in 720p with the 19:9 aspect ratio. It does have a notch on the top which is a little bit wider like the notch on the iPhone XS.
On this budget device, you’re going to be getting an 8MP front-facing camera then on the back there’s a 12MP primary camera and a 5MP secondary camera which will allow you to take photos in Bokeh mode.
UMIDIGI A3 Pro features 32GB of internal storage with the ability to expand that with a micro SD card, it has 3GB of RAM, and it runs the MediaTek mt6739 coupled with Android 8.1 Oreo.
It is not certain if or when it will ever be updated to Android Pie which is the current version of Android, but one thing’s for sure is that UMIDIGI did a good job optimising the software on this phone so it does run Oreo well.
My favourite thing about this phone has to be the build quality. Of course, it has a really nice design on the front with the notch on the top and a beautiful and clear display but also on the sides, we do have metal, and on the back, it’s kind of like a plastic glass look and it really reminds me a lot of the iPhone XS.
We also have a fingerprint sensor in the back that is fast, and that’s great to see. At the bottom, there is the 3.5mm headphone jack, a microphone, a micro USB port and the speaker.
On the right side, there is the power button and volume rocker. On the left side, we have the slot to the SIM card and microSD card, and on the top we have nothing.
10) BLU R2 Plus 2019- $99.99
Another on this list of budget smartphones is the Blu R2 Plus 2019. This device is a cheap smartphone and was recently launched in February 2019 and is available currently on Amazon for $99.99. It has dual SIM compatibility and is available factory unlocked.
The device features a 6.2-inch display at 720p and has a 19:9 aspect ratio. The screen itself is very clean, beautiful and we have a notch on the top that houses the 8MP front-facing camera with the flash, and it has the earpiece.
Now yes, a full notch but very similar to the notch on the UMIDIGI A3 Pro and iPhone XS. Overall, the phone has an excellent design.
With this device, you are going to be getting 16GB of internal storage with the ability to expand that with a micro SD card up to 64 gigabytes.
In addition to a fingerprint sensor on the back to unlock it, you can also use the face ID. Also, on the rear, we have a dual-camera setup with a 13MP primary camera and a 2MP secondary camera.
You are going to be able to take photos in Bokeh mode with this phone but to be honest, it’s not overly impressive. BLU R2 Plus features 2GB of RAM, and it runs the MediaTek mt6752 same processor that’s used by the UMIDIGI A3 Pro.
The device has 3000mAH of battery capacity and runs Android 8.1 Oreo. The software does run well on the phone, and despite it having 2GB of RAM, everything still runs very smoothly. Of course, you’re getting what you’re paying for here, but overall I think you’re going to get an outstanding experience with the BLU R2 2019.
11) RCA Q2- $89.99
When it comes to budget smartphones, the RCA Q2 is one you want to consider. The smartphone is very new to the market, and it’s available for $89.99, very inexpensive and a cheap smartphone.
RCA Q2 is available factory unlocked and works with the GSM carriers. It is dual SIM compatible, so if you have two active SIM cards, you can put them both in this device and use them at the same time.
Now the design of this phone is a little bit old-school, we have off-screen Android buttons and no notch at the top.
However, we do have a 5-inch display with 720p resolution and does look good and clear. The device has an 18:9 aspect ratio and a 5MP front-facing camera.
The phone has 16GB of internal storage with the ability to expand that with a micro SD card. There is no fingerprint sensor on the phone, which is unfortunate to see, so you are limited to using the passcode to access the device.
On the rear, there is one camera which is 8MP, it has 2GB of RAM, and I’m not sure what processor it has because I can’t find it anywhere, but RCA advertises the phone has a quad-core 1.3GHz processor.
Video recording on this device maxes out at 1080p at 30 frames per second, it features a 2200mAH internal battery(removable) and runs Android 9 pie.
12) Xiaomi Mi Mix 3- $502.40
The Mi Mix 3 has been out for a little while already, and it’s one of the more expensive budget phones, but in my opinion, it gives you one of the best budget phones out there.
Not everyone is going to agree with this choice because the Mi Mix 3 is a slider not everyone likes sliding phones and when you do get a sliding phone obviously with moving parts that introduces the possibility that it’s going to break or get some dust in the mechanism or something like that, but I don’t mind sliding phones.
You get a full screen on the front. There are no notches; no camera hole punches because of that slider you get a full screen on the front. You get a 6.4-inch AMOLED display, I think at this price level the difference between AMOLED and LCD is not that big, but once you get to the costly AMOLED panels, they’re way better than LCD.
This isn’t going to be one of the most expensive AMOLED panels. With that said, this AMOLED panel didn’t give you super dark blacks. For the processor, you get the Snapdragon 845 in this device, and that is a flagship processor. The Mi Mix 3 also comes with loads of RAM in there; you can choose between the 6, 8 or even a 10 GB version.
With the presence of Snapdragon 845 in there, you know it’s going to be snappy when you’re gaming or you when you’re multitasking. It’s going to be a decent performer and if you go for the great options and get the 10 GB of RAM that should handle your multitasking efficiently.
Consequently, for the camera department, you get two cameras on the back of which both of them are 12 MP. The main one has optical image stabilisation, it’s a perfect setup you get the standard sort of wide-angle and you get telephoto as well. I prefer a wide-angle as the secondary camera, but at least they give you a secondary camera.
On paper, the stats of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 are going head-to-head with pretty much any flagship device, and at this point, it’s hard to tell the stats on paper apart from any of the flagships. Obviously, because the front screen has no notches or no hole punches you have to slide the phone up and then you have two cameras at the front, you get a 24 MP primary camera, and it has a secondary camera as well.
The Mi Mix 3 has everything you would expect it to have. It’s got a fingerprint sensor on the back, and you can use your face to unlock it as well. It comes with a 3200mAh power battery, which isn’t the biggest in the world.
Those are the best budget smartphones and cheap Android smartphones according to our list on the market today while there are many other choices out there, and some may fit you better than all of these products. The cheap smartphones listed above gives a wide range of capabilities, reliable performance and excellent battery life and can be the right choice for you.
